Cheaply madeSeptember 30, 2008 I purchased this unit for my Necky Looksha 17 as it fit the compass area perfectly and that's where the satisfaction ended. In less than 2 weeks and after only 3 light outtings, the compass broke. The support pin within the water filled globe became dislodged and the bottom screw became seperated while leaving the globe and fluid in tact. I could have overlooked this as a simple manufacturing defect but the real fun came when I contacted Seattle Sports customer service. First the customer service person said they'd never seen such a thing and asked me to explain how I'd been using the compass. The next email the customer service supervisor emailed me this: " dropping the compass comes in mind with this problem. You had in the box and in a protected sack. The protected sack must have drop somehow. We will give you a one time replacement, you damage this one. You're are on your own" If you don't want to be 'on your own' don't purchase this. The concept is a good one, however the quality is not there and customer service is a joke.
Great Compass!August 21, 2008 This compass was a little larger than others I have seen, plus it has the big suction cup on the bottom, so I was worried that it was going to look goofy and stand too tall. Not a problem, as it turns out.
I love this compass. The suction cup keeps it centered on the deck of my skin on frame kayak and the large card is easy to read.
The red light with light sensor is a great feature. As the sun goes down and it begins to get dark, the compass begins to shine more and more brightly with a night vision saving red light.
I highly recommend this, especially considering the price.
