The Dyna-Flex Powerball makes the cover of Time magazine as one of their top 10 digital devices of the year. It features a balance rotor and removable top cap, which allow insertion of the optional digital speed meter. Generates from 32lbs to 35 lbs of torque when speeds of 9,000 - 13,000 RPM's are reached. The ultimate in engineering design, featuring the same user-friendly features as the Dyna-Flex Pro Plus but incorporating an on board generator. By activating the gyro, a dynamism (motion) is created, which will activate LED lights, located in the interior of the gyro. The faster the unit runs, the brighter the lights will be until the whole hand is engulfed in a bright glow.  So many models that it can be confusing November 12, 2008
In the US, Dynaflex is the only co. that markets gyroballs. Your local sports shops sell mostly their lowest line: Dynaflex Pro or Plus w/ no light. The model Powerball is their highest line, but not the highest made in the world. If you want something heavier w/ greater force, look for NSD Powerball. If you want a complete comparison between models (& between Dynaflex & NSD), go to BOSSBi dot com. I bought this Dynaflex Powerball blue light, it's very fun, beneficial just as it claims & durable. But it's plain impossible to start w/o a cord. So pick up a start station too. The meter will also be fun if you want to see how fast it spins.

It was a bit of a leap for me to try this, but I had it going well within 10 minutes. I love the workout and the way it handles! Awesome!

I bought one after seeing a friends. Mine was very hard to spin up. Had to use a string pull to get it started. Then it started getting harder to keep going. Contacted dynaflex about replacement, service, advice etc. All I got was you must have abused, dropped etc. Very poor communication style with all caps and misspelled words on top of accusations I was responsible for the loss in performance.
I enjoyed using it the 30 - to 40 times I could keep it going.
A friends powerball pro with no lights is much easier to spin up and has been working for hundreds of spins. Maybe I got a lemon but the customer service experience was bad.

not only is playing with this thing a lot of fun, but you get a great workout too. helped with carpel tunnel syndrome (I play guitar, I am a software engineer, my hands and wrists get a workout) I use it every day.

I had something similar to this a long time ago, minus the lights. I can't believe how powerful this little ball is. the resistance is amazing and it really gets exciting when you spin it up and try to keep holding on. The lights get brighter and brighter as it gets faster and faster.
I watched the cd that came with the powerball. It's got some muscle guy showing you how to start the powerball a few different ways. He goes on to show you how to exercise with it. I didn't find that to be adequate for bicep toning. The powerball will really work your forearms though! It's perfect for strengthening finger grip also.
I need the string to start it. Be careful when ripping the string out, a few times I pulled the string out crooked and had to disassemble the ball to get it out.
Don't attempt to start the ball by rubbing in on carpet, it will gather a bunch on dust in the gryo's track and you will have a very tough time gaining any speed, I needed to clean it out after that mistake.
I have only been able to start it without the string 1 time.
I think the included string will probably last only a few hundred pulls, you might think about ordering an extra one if you can't start the ball without it.
It's really not that loud if you keep it under 10k rpm. You could probably use this in a cubical without disturbing anyone. I believe the lights gather power from a magnet pickup and require no batteries.
I highly suggest that you attach some type of wrist strap to the small cutout in the ball. I used a wrist strap from my wiimote and it has saved me a few times from dropping the ball. It would have been greatly damaged if I wouldn't have had that wrist strap on.
I'm probably going to get the power meter to go with it, because it allows you to set goals for yourself.
