great pain relieverMarch 2, 2008 I have endometriosis and I took this everyday for a month and my pain was diminished greatly. I still needed to take Ibuprofen but it actually did the trick. Usually I'm still in a ton of pain with just the Ibuprofen. I'm hoping this continues.

This is the only product that I have found that claims to be pure D-Phenylalanine (the isolated D-isomer of the amino acid Phenylalanine).
I frequently use DL-Phenylalanine because the L-isomer has other separate mood-modulating effects. I didn't even realize that the D-isomer could be isolated until I found this product. The absorption of the nutrient is increased greatly by the detachment. If you want this mostly for pain relief and/or endorphin release, this is a more powerful and effective product than any of the ones that contain the combined isomers.
I used this as an adjunct for pain relief after I got surgery (twice) for a triple-spiral fracture in my ankle. Since I still felt significant pain while taking oxycodone and acetaminophen tablets, I tried taking one of these in addition. The pain went away completely, but I could barely get out of my bed. Then I tried reducing the oxycodone dosage and taking one again, (half of my original dose plus 500mg D-Phenylalanine) and I experience very little pain normal energy levels. Now I know if I'm ever in extreme pain (or just want a powerful and fun mood modulator that is synergistic with numerous other chemicals, especially opiates) then I should replace my standard DL-Phenylalanine with this pure D-isomer form.

D-phenylalanine (DPA) either as a single enantiomer or as a component of the racemic mixture is available through conventional organic synthesis. It does not participate in protein biosynthesis although it is found in proteins, in small amounts, particularly aged proteins and food proteins that have been processed. The biological functions of D-amino acids remain unclear. Some D-amino acids, such as D-phenylalanine, may have pharmacological activity.
DL-Phenylalanine is marketed as a nutritional supplement for its putative analgesic and antidepressant activities. The putative analgesic activity of DL-phenylalanine may be explained by the possible blockage by D-phenylalanine of enkephalin degradation by the enzyme carboxypeptidase A. The mechanism of DL-phenylalanine's putative antidepressant activity may be accounted for by the precursor role of L-phenylalanine in the synthesis of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine. Elevated brain norepinephrine and dopamine levels are thought to be associated with antidepressant effects. D-phenylalanine is absorbed from the small intestine, following ingestion, and transported to the liver via the portal circulation. A fraction of D-phenylalanine appears to be converted to L-phenylalanine. D-phenylalanine is distributed to the various tissues of the body via the systemic circulation. D-phenylalanine appears to cross the blood-brain barrier with less efficiency than L-phenylalanine. A fraction of an ingested dose of D-phenylalanine is excreted in the urine.
