Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The SwiMP3 v2 underwater MP3 player is an incredible audio experience. Imagine listening to hours of your own music during your swim workout. The SwiMP3's innovative sound transfer technology offers exception underwater sound quality. Standard players rely on the transmission of sound through air or water causing the swimmer to perceive only muffled noise. The SwiMP3 uses bone conduction - the direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear - to provide the swimmer with exceptional sound clarity. The SwiMP3 is fully waterproof and can be used with all the competitive swim strokes. The new SwiMP3 is revolutionary in that it relies on bone conduction of sound. When the device is placed on any bones of the skull (i.e. the cheek bones or the mastoid tip) it leads to vibration of the fluid in the inner ear. Thus swimmers can enjoy clarity of sound with the SwiMP3 device that was never before possible. Bone conduction hearing is a safe, well-established hearing mechanism in humans that the SwiMP3 player leverages to enhance aquatic activity. Finis's application of the technology brings an entirely new level of experience to swimmers, either while working out or taking a leisurely swim. System Requirements:. Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP. MAC OS 9 & 10. Intel Pentium II 233 Mhz or equivalent. 128 MB Ram. 35 MB available hard drive space. USB port. CD-ROM drive. Internet connection recommended

5 out of 5 stars MUSIC WHILE YOU SWIM...   November 20, 2008
I received the Finis MP3 player as a gift about 2 months ago, and I love it. I downloaded my music very easily from my computer (approx. 60 songs) and was up and swimming with music in no time at all. If you find music a motivator while exercising, you will find the same with swimming. I love the ease and freedom this mp3 player has--fits by slipping under the goggle strap. The volume is easily reached and after a few times, you don't need to see it, your finger will just find it. It will also skip to the next song, again, same thing. The sound is good and it really works!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent MP3 for LAP SWIMMERS   November 18, 2008
Finis SwiMP3 V2 Underwater MP3 Player-New Design Just out for 2007 with Goggles

Excellent waterproof Mp3 player for LAP SWIMMERS. This player stays in place and works best when fully submerged. The sound quality is good but don't expect strong bass or very loud volume. Works best when used in conjunction with earplugs to block ambient pool noise. Can be used with just about any type of swim goggles...I use swedish goggs with the thin straps and it works great...stays put with strong pushes off the wall and all the head turning to breath! (some versions of this player come with goggles, mine did not). If you shop for this player, try to get the V2 version which has double the memory of the original and all of the controls are right on the side cheek bone player as opposed to a separate control pack that the original had which mounted on the back of your goggle straps.

After A LOT of research, I tried the speedo aquabeat first (USELESS FOR LAP SWIMMING...would be so-so for beach//surfing//boogie boarding///other water activities where your head remains primarily above water), and this player far out performs the Speedo Aquabeat in terms of comfort, staying in place, and providing decent sound quality. THIS IS CURRENTLY THE BEST UNDERWATER MP3 PLAYER OUT THERE FOR LAP SWIMMERS. All those that say it is to loud, were probably not using it correctly...it is designed to fire into the cheek bones and the vibrations conduct to your eardrums to produce the sound...those who put the player directly over the ear canal will find it to be quite loud. When worn properly, I found the volume to be sufficient but not even close to being to loud.

I have not experienced any of the headaches that a few others have claimed in their reviews...and I use this player to swim laps non-stop for an hour and a half each day, 5 days a week.

The software is easy to use with the standard drag and drop menus in windows. Others have also claimed there is no "shuffle" or random play feature, but there is if you read the instructions...you just have to hold down 2 buttons (the fwd and rev commands) at the same time on the player for 1 second and it's set to shuffle...very easy.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MP3 player to anyone who uses lap swimming for working out or competative swim training, it makes the time just fly by and you're no longer bored doing those long marathon swims...1 Caviat - it would not be well suited for use at the beach or on surfboards/boogie boards or other water activities where your head remains primarily out of the water as the sound conduction only really works well when it's submerged as previously stated. Good luck and enjoy if you buy this player...I found it to be well worth the money!

5 out of 5 stars I Love My SwiMP3   November 16, 2008

I swim about an hour a day, and it used to be monotonous. Now, I listen to audiobooks while I swim. Not only am I keeping in shape, but I'm reading the classics and keeping my mind in shape as well! The waterproof MP3 player is easy to load and easy to use. I use it without earplugs, since I had to crank the volume too high with the earplugs in. I have had absolutely no problems with this player, and would never be without it when I swim.

4 out of 5 stars Lots of Pros, A Couple Cons   November 12, 2008
All in all, I am really glad I made this purchase. I've owned it about 6 weeks and already feel like it's paid for itself.

WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT SwiMP3 v.2 :

-- Very easy interface allows you to add mp3/wav files by simply drag & drop. At 256mb, I have 35 mp3s loaded at 128kbs. While it can play wav files, I wouldn't recommend it, as the size is much bigger and you could only fit a few songs at a time.

-- Takes the monotony out of swimming laps. I actually look forward to swimming during my lunch break now!

-- Small size is easy to manage yet the design is durable and 100% waterproof.

-- Doesn't create any extra drag while swimming or prohibit head & arm movement during strokes.

-- Very easy to recharge about every 4 hours of use by simply plugging into the USB port of your computer. Seems to hold a charge nicely between uses.

-- Multitasking Possibility. So far I've only used it for music, but I'm seriously considering loading audio tutorials to brush up on my Spanish. You could swim & learn at the same time. Students could load a book on tape for that big upcoming report. Podcasts of radio & news programs could keep you up to date with your favorite commentaries. Lots of possibilities here besides just music!

WHAT COULD USE SOME IMPROVEMENT:

-- While my Speedo Vanquisher goggles are watertight without the player, the right eye leaks water when I wear these. I end up pressing it into my eye so tightly that it's uncomfortable & even painful at times. Ouch! After multiple adjustments & examinations, I have yet to discover why one eye leaks while the other does not.

-- The controls can be tricky. I have mastered every function except shuffle, which seems to be impossible to activate for me. My solution is to name the tracks with a preceding random number when loading from my PC, because this player auto-sorts alphabetically. While not truly "random", this ensures you don't hear the same artist nonstop during your workout.
