you can do betterNovember 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall I was disappointed in this barrel. I was cleaning it all the time. The paintballs seem to break more in this barrel than others I have shot. I may not be shooting the high end paint, but I'm not shooting the cheap stuff either. I purchased a tippmann whisper 32 degee barrel and have been ever happy with this barrel. The whisper has the same consistency as the apex barrel at hitting your target while I don't have the breakage of paint. Another plus was the whisper was cheaper than the apex. I'll hang on to the apex for some situtions, but I'll be shooting the whisper more in the woods than the apex.

Equipment tested: Tippmann A-5 BT Apex (obviously) Remote Air America 88cu 4500PSI Compressed Air Tank
I recently purchased this barrel for my A-5, and immediately noticed a huge improvement over the stock one. In normal mode (no ball ramping) the barrel is impressively accurate. At about 75 feet I could paint a 2 foot target easily, with a good percentage of those hits right in the center. When I kicked the ramping on and set it to flatline mode, I was able to hit the same target at about twice the distance with reliable accuracy. I should probably note: with this barrel, when you turn on flatline mode, you have to aim the gun up about 25 degrees. The gun shoots perfectly straight at this angle, you just won't be able to use your sights. Personally, I got used aiming that way pretty quickly; it doesn't bother me at all.
Also, it's worth noting, the arcing abilities of this barrel really do work. All you have to do is rotate it to the desired direction, ramp it all the way up, and fire. The nice thing about the slice and top-spin modes is you can still use your sights: the ball will actually land where you're aiming. I was able to paint the same target with full slice on at about 100 feet, which was definitely not what I was expecting. Also, the tip of the barrel is also not as flimsy as I had expected. It seemed to me that I would really have to baby this thing just so the tip wouldn't break off during play, but it seems to be quite sturdy. This barrel goes very easy on paint, unlike the flatline. For my testing, I used fairly cheap paint, and it worked great. The biggest factor is that you can turn off the flatline mode, so if it's particularly cold out, and your gun starts chopping balls (I've haven't had that problem yet), just switch it off.
Overall, I think it's a great barrel that's definitely worth the money. Action Village shipped it to me right on time, and it was in perfect condition. If you're willing to spend the money, it's a great addition to have.
